A joint survey team representing Burma (Myanmar) and Bangladesh has started border measurement surveys in various boundary points. A top Bangladesh government survey officer named Brigadier General Mohammad Abul Khair led a four member survey team to arrive in Myanmar for the survey in association with Myanmar officials.

“They conducted the measurement survey on Burma border points for four days and returned back to Bangladesh on May 7,” said an official representing the Myanmar side.
It also added that the Bangladeshi team accompanied a Myanmar survey team for the measurement in Bangladesh side.
The eleven member Myanmarese survey team is led by border land survey director Major U Tun Oo, which has arrived in Cox’s Bazaar of south Bangladesh on the same day. The measurement survey program lasted till May 11 last.
Burma and Bangladesh often engage in border conflicts particularly over Naf river as it grows new islands time to time. Moreover the changing course of the river also causes confusion about the border in various occasions. It resulted in the arrest of Bangladesh fishermen by Myanmar authorities in many occasions accusing them as intruders to the Myanmar side.
